Cirque Du Soleil’s latest is OVO, centered around a giant egg with insects as main protagonists. The stars of this performance are the little “kiwi girls”, so adorable. I also liked the trapezists although it was more about the style than the show for them, they did look terrific
On the other side of the awesome spectrum were the horrendous feet performers (wtf was that) and the opener, a variation on stripper pole dancing.. by a dude. The “clowns” didn’t do it for me either although they rarely do, maybe the overall costumes are to blame
The 2nd act after the intermission loses steam only to be grandly concluded with the main piece I will remember from this show, the trampoline/wall (rock) climbing scene. Breathtaking even if trampoline + wall = automatic win
Though the music remains too weird to appreciate, the violin guy stood out and was a riot. It must also be noted that the set transitions are very well executed
It feels like prices are going up for these shows, you can easily spend over $100 per ticket (it starts at $54) which is mostly worth it
OVO set up shop like Cirque’ does every year off Terry Francois Blvd at the AT&T Park parking lot (across the small bridge on 3rd St). The show opened Nov 27 in San Francisco and runs thru Feb 2010
