This is one of the best movies of the 2001

Grand epic from New Zealander Peter Jackson who did great justice to the geek favorite novel by J.R.R. Tolkien .. Hobbits, Elves and Orcs, what more can you ask for

Clockin at over three hours, the movie redefines what epic means, and makes you think how beautiful can New Zealand be. There are some great and intense scenes, I especially love the trek up the snowy mountains which eventually forces the fellowship into the mines.. and you can see how Tolkien influenced several generations of fantasy related to dark and somber dungeons.. Gandalf's death is pretty dramatic, and it's only about 3 quarters into the movie (which just keeps on going and going). At the end of the first trilogy installment, the fellowship is broken, and it's a great setup for "The Two Towers". Some of the cinematography is simply masterful

Notable is the fact that Peter Jackson pushed and got the trilogy filmed in one go (very rare actually), cost about 300 millions to make, but the first movie alone made New Line (Warner) money..

I have to say the dialogue is a bit hard to follow, with all the numerous and weird names of people and places

Many Oscar nominations but few important wins in this first installment of what seems to be an equally grand trilogy
Loved the art direction, simply splendid
