I wrote this review for Epinions (rip) - Don't Watch this! Written: Sep 16 '00 Product Rating: Pros: still working on that.. Cons: Keanu Reeves a serial killer? give me a break Keanu Reeves gives maybe the worst performance of his career in this unbelievable portrayal of a serial killer. James Spader is the FBI agent who's life is tormented by Reeves who just messes with Spader's head by sending him pictures of his victims, a day before he actually kills them. I thought Marisa Tomei who is the greatest in My Cousin Vinnie could lift up this movie as a psychologist who treats Spader.. but her performance has nothing stellar in itself. Alas she's just playing a part. The movie is pretty annoying by itself but it's also got some recurring dream/vision Spader gets when he falls into his hypnotic sleep. In there, he remembers the night when his girlfriend perished in flames while he could have almost caught Reeves, years ago. What really bugs me is we fail to understand what's up with Reeves or, his obsession with Spader that he won't leave alone. Another review on Epinions made reference to "serial killer vision" and yeah, this is hilarious but it is exactly what this movie is. When the audience is placed in Reeves' point of view, we see something all distorted with a dramatic Darth Vader like breathing Maybe the only redeeming thing about this is that it will make you think about how people today are so disconnected from each other and are not part of anything, just drifting vessels with no port of attachment. I would die before I am forced to see this again though. How this movie wound up #1 at the box office is beyond me.
