Plot: A man (Ewan McGregor) goes on the run after he discovers that he is actually a "harvested being", and is being kept along with others in a utopian facility.
The movie has its moments and it's hard to talk about it without spoiling it. Let's say it deals with interesting outcome of possible advances in biology. Taking place in 2019, the characters come head to head with the moral issues people might wrestle with in the days of modern genetics I feel like it had potential to be good but Bay wastes way too much time setting up the premise. Things are fairly predictable and could use a lot more action The movie is so chokeful of product and brand placement that it wasn't funny (Puma, Cisco, General Motors, etc...). I don't mind it too much but things are so blatant here with shots that could serve as promotional ad pieces, really takes away from a movie that is not very strong in the first place Bay's usual brand of splash (explosions explosions explosions) is present here but fail to grip the audience. One can't deny Johansson's beauty but ther performance along with her chemistry with McGregor is not palpable enough (her short screentime with Hounsou were maybe more exciting) Spoler below A big problem is having the characters act like children (the movie mentions they have the mental age of 15) which is hard to get attached to or be excited about Bay was a bit focused on a modern creation of LA though some of the signage for public transportation is reminiscent of the MTA (New York). There were many shots of street signs which were probably very inside joke-ish for LA or industry folks There's something that really bothers me in movies where the final scenes take place in some remote compound (here the "institute" desert underground facility), it's just so hokey and devoid of excitement Last Updated 12/11/2005 3:07:23 PM 2hr 16min / Directed by Michael Bay / Starring Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Djimon Hounsou, Sean Bean, Steve Buscemi, Michael Clarke Duncan / Language: English / Watched: DVD Also by Michael Bay - filmography (7 movies)
