The movie had potential for a mushy romance flick that I usually quite like but it turned into something really dark and derailed with the Bruce Lee reference stuff

The story mostly centers on a new kid who transferred high school. He quickly buddies up with the baddie of his class and there are all these rivalries with other students and the authority (abusive teachers and disciplinarians), it takes place in 1978 so some stuff are a real throwback to that era (disco dancing comes to mind)

The young protagonist starts out as a wid-eyed romantic, soft spoken and shy. He quickly falls in love with a girl he has a huge crush on but his best friend is in the way. The lad eventually becomes addicted to his Bruce Lee fantasies and fight a big bully at the school. What really ticks me off is there are no real lessons or resolutions, it's much worse than that really

The movie is also known as "Once Upon a Time in High School". It actually reunites Sang-woo Kwon with the chubby kid (smaller role of a psycho kid nicknamed "Stabber") who were the leads in Love, So Divine
