Plot: A wrongfully expelled Harvard undergrad moves to London, where he is introduced to the violent undeworld of soccer hooliganism.
Matt (Wood) finds friendship and footing in a somewhat life as a pushover after he gets wrongfully expelled from Harvard and cozies up to Pete who runs the West Ham "firm" in London, a real hardcore football (that's soccer) fan club/gang in England. One can't deny Hunnan's charisma in Pete's character, the guy is talented, like a cooler Heath Ledger. I agree with another reviewer that while Wood is good, he doesn't look like he could be a hooligan, it's Frodo for chrissake Matt tragically finds a way to stand up in his life so I guess the movie has a happy ending. Forlani plays a very minor character as Matt's sister. Warren who plays Matt's brother in law looks like a British Marc Anthony. Word. I thought they could have done more with the narration. The backstory of the rivarly between the GSC (Gills Supporters Club?) and Millwall is a bit over the top dramatic but the movie was very rivetting in general. The street fights reminded me a bit of Braveheart battle scenes, minus the armors and axes. The British accent is a bit hard to follow but not as hard as I thought it could be. Good reviews, and I agree with them Last Updated 7/9/2008 10:36:01 AM 1hr 49min / Directed by Lexi Alexander / Starring Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnam, Claire Forlani, Leo Gregory, Marc Warren / Language: English | ||||
