Plot: While helping his latest client woo the fine lady of his dreams, a professional "date doctor" (Smith) finds game doesn't quite work on the gossip columnist (Mendes) with whom he's smitten.
As Danyel Smith pointed out, the premise looks very similar to Breakin All The Rules starring Jamie Foxx Lame ass dvd cover It turns out not to be Black at all, a straight up romantic comedy with all the pitfalls and that obligatory deception that ruins a possible relationship when gossip reporter played Mendes outs "date doctor" Smith out of anger All is well in the end. I think the movie's strength is that Smith in the end plays a nice guy who wants to give guys a chance, and not just help them get into a girl's bed. Furthermore, nice homely Kevin James (famous for CBS sitcom King of Queens) gets to be with the girl of his dream, a beautiful heiress of some sort The whole thing is very New York, it tries some new things that have not been done to death in the Big Apple (jet ski ride/Hudson River harbor, maybe) Eva Mendes is hot sometimes, she could stand to be a lot hotter. I liked the girl playing her sister better that we see for a bit at the end Smith got his start in comedy but and he still carries that his lead action roles but I thought he sturggled with a couple of scenes, where he is wheezing because of the food allergy, or when Kevin Jame character was choking him on the boat. Looked forced to me The disaster talk he is trying to have with Eva Mendes through the door at the end rang very true, it's how life is, just messy and things are not coming right.
