Plot: Based on real life events, Assassination is set in 1974 and centers on a businessman (Penn) who decides to take extreme measures to achieve his American dream.
"Slavery never really ended in this country. It just gave it another name. Employee." Sean Penn again tackles a difficult role as Sam Bicke, the archetypical American man with a chip on his shoulder, society has forsaken him, his wife is divorcing him, he left the family business owned by his brother over a dispute.. he ends up associating all those things with the political climate around Nixon and his dubious brand of morality.. it's a slow but steady descent into insanity when he has a half-assed plan to fly a plane into the White House Bicke actually leaves a note for posterity that he sent to Leonard Bernstein of the New York symphony or something, and the letter is read throughout the movie to express his discontent and malaise about what is wrong in society He's an outcast, left behind, pushed over the edge by all the injustice that are done to him. Weird reunion of Penn and Watts who also co-starred in 21 Grams (2003), here their relationship is quite different. Cheadle has a small role as Bicke's only friend, but even he fails to agree with Bicke's ideas Pretty sad movie That is one tacky dvd cover though I cannot say the original one-sheet was much better. I wish the movie studios wouldn't rush to cram as many recognizeable faces as they could on that tiny box Last Updated 8/27/2005 8:42:21 AM 1hr 35min / Directed by Niels Mueller / Starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, Don Cheadle / Language: English / Watched: DVD | ||||
