This is one of the best movies of the 2005

Plot: An adaptation of Frank Miller's stories based in the fictional town of Sin City. Chief amongst the town's residents is Marv, who trawls the darkest areas of town looking for the person who killed his one true love, Goldie.

Part of me and my friends' Fearless Tuesdays series, quite a star studded cast with a lot of good reviews from industry and friends alike

The movie is quite different since it involved Frank Miller, the author of the original source material (Sin City graphic novels) as a co-director alongside Robert Rodriguez (better known for his work on Desperado, Spy Kids, and his embracing of new technology in movie making)

This results in a very faithful adaptation which goes to the extreme sometimes adapting panels directly into movie scenes

The movie is based on three separate stories all taking place in Sin City: Sin City (first graphic novel), The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow Bastard. The location (actual town name being Basin City) is where each story is loosely connected, the main characters do intersect in the nightclub where Nancy dances

Overall, it coulda been freaking awesome but the truth is the story in The Big Fat Kill was weaker than the other two. The segment features Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro and Rosario Dawson in Old Town about hookers vs the mob/cops

The movie opens and closes actually on the Hartigan/Nancy (Willis/Alba) storyline from that That Yellow Bastard

Actually to be accurate, there are two scenes where we are shown the hitman played by Josh Hartnett and it is actually a good way to frame the movie

The original Sin City story with Marv and Goldie is of course pretty badass. The freakish makeup on Rourke makes him actually look like the character as it was drawn. Rourke's performance is pretty dead-on. Good casting of Jamie King and especially Elijah Wood as Kevin.

That Yellow Bastard is my favorite Sin City story, ish is so jacked up. Willis' portrayal of the old Hartigan is pretty good. He makes what happens with Nancy believable

The acting was in general good for the guys, and not so hot for the girls. Jessica Alba is ultra hot (or can be) but I'm glad her role wasn't as big though it kinda was haha

A lot of people are all over Carla Gugino who plays Lucille, Marv's parole officer, she had a pretty good scene at the end at the Farm but I think people are just big uppin her body haha

The mood of the movie is captured well, with the coloring (b&w and spot colors), snow, rain, and especially dialogue directly lifted from the pages of the comics. Does it ranslate well on-screen? That's another question, I felt that it was a bit heavy though I enjoyed the protagonist narration (total comic bubble moment)

I really enjoyed the overstylized shots Rodriguez and Miller came up with even if they are largely lifted from the original comic book. I think the jazzy music really support Sin City well. The movie as well as the comics are definitely for a mature audience, with the ultra-violence, nudity and language.
