Plot: An English Professor tries to deal with his wife leaving him, the arrival of his editor who has been waiting for his book for seven years, and the various problems that his friends and associates involve him in.
I've been intent on watching Wonder Boys for a long time, I was for an eternity (all the way up to Batman Begins) in the "Cult of Katie". It took a week-end of 3 good movies and the recommendation by Gnod after entering said movies to steer me in the right disposition to watch this, finally. I'll have to admit, Gnod is not perfect at all, and this movie seems a lot more in the veign of Moonlight Mile than English Patient or Affair to Remember. Still, the story of Grady Tripp (Douglas), English professor with an excellent but 5-6 year old 1st novel, and his weirdest and most promising student James Leer (Maguire) was quite watchable. The whole thing borders the pedantic, it's all Michael Douglas, but it does have a good ending. One of my favorite things about the movie was the character names McDormand is quite charming in this movie as the object of Prof. Tripp's affection, she looks alarmingly like Rosie Perez on the dvd cover, but that's just an abbheration.
