Dogs of Babel (2003)
Carolyn Parkhurst
romance - ISBN 0316168688

When Paul's wife dies of an apparent accident and the only witness is their dog, the linguist professor in him decide to teach his pet to speak (gasp!). He also gives us the lowdown on his life and how he came to be with his wife.. sort of a love story with a mystery twist, the narration (Paul) is quite nice and the characters are very personable.

This book was featured as a Today's Book Club selection

The novel sure had really good premise but things kinda go for the dramatic flair midway and gets really unbelievable in some parts, making the whole reading experience less pleasant. There's something really sad to Paul's search for the circumstances of his wife's death, how he can't let go and at the same time how could he? I think in the end, the resolution is not as satisfying as I had hoped but this was an excellent read overall, full of hope and fear, which the author says are sides of the same coin
