Nice cheap show ($10) at the Independent. Showed up way too early (less than 10 people were there), but met some nice kids (literally). The first guy Peter Walker was quite chill and forgettable. His family might have been in the audience (first table left)Somebody Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (SSLYBY) from Springfield, Missouri were pretty good. You wouldn't forget a retarded name like this but I never heard their stuff (this girl Katie said they were on the OC, nice). They played a solid set, especially compared to the first dude. I talked to Philip/Phil (bass/guitars) and he told me the name was a joke thing back at school when Yeltsin was getting dissed after he stepped down in the late 90s. They didn't think it would stick, silly kids. Phil and "Potter kid" (John) switch bass and guitars mid-show and they also trade instruments (Phil plays drums on some songs) on the album, I picked it up and I'm sure it's gonna be fun. They've been selling the cd themselves but the album recently got a distribution deal which will be reissued in October (check Amazon and iTunes) http://myspace.com/someonestilllovesyouborisyeltsin I was really impressed with Sound Team (Austin, TX), I'm not sure I totally dig it when there are a million people on stage (Arcade Fire is ok, Stars sucked) but they had such good energy that it worked. The bassist, drummer and lead singer/guitarist/pianist rocked the most. My favorite song is of course "You Eyes Are Liars", I was talking with some people outside and they thought they would close the show with that. It actually came fairly early in the set, maybe because of some amp problem but I got no complaint, ish was so on point. The closer ended up being the album title track "Movie Monster", which sounded like 10x better live, and now I kinda dig it. Another highlight was "TV Torso" which I heard for the first time at the show, it's gonna be on repeat on the iPod. Some of the band was hanging out at the merch table so you could talk to em or whatever. I got a tshirt and also their latest cd (first major label release with Capitol) which just came out this month http://myspace.com/soundteam Peter Walker ![]() SSLYBY ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sound Team ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More pics Links - http://flickr.com/photos/kewlio/sets/72157594169173508/
