Return to Mezzanine and its small room. I learned this was the last date on this US tour, coolness. Easily the best concert of the year (even with a very lazy crowd and somewhat lame merch). Special thanks to Rene for post gig crash pad Monsters Are Waiting Small LA band who I'm not sure are signed yet. They featured a pretty cool weird chick singer who was rocking a tiny keyboard. They played sum ok stuff even if the sound was iffy. The bassist and guitarist changed spots and instruments towards the end (weird cool). Their first album "Fascination" is due ine June Stellastar* Not a bad opening band with two albums under their belt, their last one was one of the better albums last year. The lead guitarist Michael Junn was kinda awesome and I dug how he swayed back and forth. However the sound got a lot worse here compared to the first band, the bassist Amanda Tannen's backup vocals in particular sounded so awful (she looked kinda hot). The singer Shawn Christensen didn't look like how I pictured him, and I saw them on tv before, weird. I had a couple of wtf moments when I wasn't sure where the music was coming from (piano?!). The light guy kinda got carried away during this set, he blinded me far too many times. Love to see them again Set list (credits, identical set list picture from 4/18 show) Island Lost at Sea No Weather A Million Reasons Sweet Troubled Sould The Diver In The Walls Love and Longing Somewhere Across Forever On My Own Lost In Time My Coco Jenny Editors Basically one of my favorite bands of 2005 and into 2006. Back Room has been on heavy rotation for a while, some excellent stuff. Some of the awesome guitars by Chris Urbanowicz sounded different from the studio version but not for long. The vocals by Tom Smith came out so clear I was surprised given how bad sound has worsened during the night, it pays to be headliner. I loved his energy. Ed Lay (drums) was pretty damn strong too. One random moment was when Chris hit Tom by mistake on his guitar in between vocals. It went on as if nothing happened. Russel Leetch (Bass) was pretty low key, he took a break during the number with Tom on piano to smoke and drink Returning from the encore, Tom Smith said he'd give 5£ if anyone knew this rare song they were gonna perform for the first time live. It was only my favorite Editors song ever, "Release", an obscure b-side that I totally fell in love with last December. I'm waiting for my quids man. They also played a couple of songs I never heard, "Bones" was a standout. Otherwise all my favorites kicked major ass. Chris threw his pick towards my area but it fell to the floor, someone must hav picked it up. Editors rule Set List (picture) Lights Blood All Sparks The Fall Find Yourself never heard Bullets Camera You Are Fading Munich Open Your Arms - Release Bones never heard Fingers in the Factory I shot some footage of of "Release" and the asses at youtube removed it.
