Simply excellent

Walk The Line (2005) - 4/5
IMDB (8.0/10): A chronicle of country music legend Johnny Cash's life, from his early days on an Arkansas cotton farm to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis, where he recorded alongside Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

I happen to love Mangold (if you scratch Kate & Leopold I guess) so this was a no brainer for me.. now was it gonna live up to the hype.

I'm glad to say it's all true, everything people have said about how great this movie is, it's better than Ray and you don't really need to be a fan of country or Johnny Cash though you may very well become one after watching this. The duets were great ("Jackson") and of course, Cash's bigger hits "Ring of Fire" or the title track "I Walk The Line"

This biopic grabbed my attention from the start when "JR" was a little boy to the final scenes when he finds an inner peace. It's all so hopeful and definitely make me feel reverent for tha "man in black"

Hats off to Phoenix and Witherspoon who's about the cutest thing ever, their singing is very impressive

Small note, the lighting of the scenes while they are touring and arriving at a motel look a lot like the ambience for the movie Identity which was Mangold's last flick. I'm looking forward to the director commentary which was very enjoyable on Identity too

Big Oscar contender on the performances though it is missing from the best picture list. The original one-sheet promo was kinda tight (it was designed by Shepard Fairey who also designed the 2-disc set), subsequent b&w teasers were ok.. I kinda like the dvd cover

Quotes
"I Shot a Man in Reno Just to Watch Him Die"
"You wear black cause you cant find anything else to wear, You found your sound cause you cant play no better, and you just tried to kiss me cause it just happened? You should try taking credit for something every once in a while."
