I forget where I got this list, it's for serious runners or corporate snobs (you can always go to Finish Line, I dunno)

I can only speak on my experience at Ryan's Sport Shop though I'm sure you'd get similar service at the other stores. They had a nice return policy (ok maybe a standard one) and they let me try different types of shoe (stability, trail, cushion). I got to run up and down the parking lot behind the store. It was nice, in a "mom and pop store" personal way which you pay more for. Maybe you should go to these for your first pair and once you know what kind is right for you, buy online (save $)

I remember trying shoes from Nike, Asics and Mizuno and ended up getting some Asics GT-xxxx, they fit me the best (Nike had too much cushion, Mizuno not enough although I would consider getting a pair of Mizunos in the future)

Tip: your toes swell up while running so buy your running shoes a half a size bigger
