give uni a chance

I've longed been on the side of those who frown when hearing about ordering uni (sea urchin), I remember trying some long ago but that was a time when I didn't really enjoy sushi. Fast foward to now, I'm a slightly more informed and sophisticated eater. I actually sat at the counter the other day at Shiki and thought, why not, I'm already lame for ordering a bento box, maybe I can redeem myself and cozy it up with the sushi chefThe order came promptly, I guess you can't make a counter customer wait that long anyway. My Japanese friend told me to eat it in one bite. He applied some wasabi and drizzled a bit of soy sauce on top. I followed him. The texture was very good actually, smooth and melts in the mouth. I recalled a strong pungent taste reminiscent of shrimp or lobster head/brain juice but it wasn't there. It actually reminded me of something else, some other raw fish The delight didn't come cheap, $8 for two pieces (still more affordable than toro at $13), I'll definitely order it next chance I get, uni for 2005 yo Links - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/uni/clusters/sushi-food/
