google maps update

Discovered a nice little update to Google Maps this morning. First the maps and results were flipped, map is now on the right while hits are on the left. But the nifty trick is that now they have the results in a separate frame with its own scroll bar. Previously you'd scroll down the results and the map would no longer be in view. Now the map is always in plain sight, simple and effective Update From this Battelle post, the story is actually with the official launch of Google Local (no longer in beta) which is now exactly Google Maps' new interface I wrote about above Local information has been available in Google Maps for a while, check out this query for a16 san francisco.. the merged service has an additional tab off the Google pick breaking down "address" and "detail" (hours and other information when available, i.e. restaurants). I can see how Google wants to formalize Google Local to compete directly with Yahoo! Local I like Google's version a lot better because you only fill out one field, it's smart enough (usually) to separate out the location Links - http://maps.google.com/maps?q=puma%20store%20san%20francisco - blog post 2/7/2005 - Google Maps
