Bloc Party @ Warfield - 9/22/05 - $35 (was $25, had to add stupid fees) Bloc Party played their 2nd show at the Warfield Thursday night. I rode Caltrain for the first time ever to San Mateo (it's fast but a little bumpy) where I met up with Michelle, and on we went. Her Prius is kinda cool, the mileage she gets on that is obscene, 50mpg and up (oh yeah she also gets to ride in the car pool lane solo) We got to San Francisco around 8p, parked and got some food at Carl's Jr on Market.. waited soooo long for the food, which was bleh but we had to go I like the Warfield, it's a mix of old theater (balcony, chandelier and other fixtures) and small concert venue. Definitely cool. By the time we got in, we had missed the first opening act which I thought was the Kills, but that was the Noisettes. We ended up seeing the Kills which were very underwhelming. The duo was on some weirdo heavy metal ish and they used a drum machine!! I couldn't figure out for the longest time that one of them was a girl Anyway, we walked around, checked out the merchandise and got some drinks to wait for Bloc Party to come on. They did shortly after 10 o'clock. The concert was pretty good, we were relatively close even though we were towards the back of that area There were not one but two encores, something I read Bloc Party does sometimes. We got even closer as some peeps had left, things got kinda rowdy at the very end with one guy going on stage trying to shake the singer's hand (not before security took him away), things were really hype on the floor Matt Tong the drummer is really the shit, he's like the most advanced Asian rocking nerd ever, glasses and shirt to back it up. He took off his shirt after the first or second song hahah, kid is damn good. Bassist Gordon Moakes was sporting a pink scarf that a fan knitted him when they came back for the encores The singer/guitarist Kele Okereke (Black kid) had really good energy though I could not understand his accent whenever he addressed the audience. Main guitarist Russell Lissack was on point I thought they played all the songs from Silent Alarm but I think "Compliments" which is real slow was omitted. I don't remember if "Luno" was played either. It's okay, all my favorites were on, some songs sounded better live actually. "Helicopter" or "Price of Gasoline" had this kick ass intro that was over a minute long, like psychadelic. They also played a lot of new songs including "Two More Years" which should be their next single. Partial set list, not in order (bad memory, bad), gotta find the actual thing - Positive Tension (opening song) - Banquet - Here We Are - Blue Light - This Modern Love - Plans - Price of Gasoline - Helicopter - Pioneers - She's Hearing Voices - Like Eating Glass - Tulips - Two More Years Good concert, made a fan of Michelle tonight (she got a cool tee, so did I) Found this set on Flickr of their show of the day before, really good pics Links - pictures - /2005/09 sep 22 bloc party/ - album review - Silent Alarm by Bloc Party - album review - Silent Alarm Remixed by Bloc Party - http://www.blocparty.com - http://www.blocparty.net
