london to host 2012 olympics

For all the talk of New York City (at least in the US) as a candidate city to host the 2012 Olympic Games, I had dismissed London as a viable candidate. Paris had long been rumored to be the front-runner for those games but lost to its British rival in a close vote of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) which took place in Singapore. Madrid and Moscow round up the year's high profile candidates What happened yo? Paris clearly has the superior logo (hah!) Fact: "It will be the first time the Olympics has been held in Britain since 1948."
