I've always been fond of the Museum Of Modern Art, the MOMA, at least a lot more than my friends. We're lucky to have a little west coast outpost in San Francisco. The MOMA in New York returned from its temporary digs in Queens to a spanking new space on 53rd St. Very impressive, tis huuuuge Free Friday evenings sponsored by Target (after 4pm). Saved a bit of money: $20 adults, or $12 students. Get there early, the line gets long fast but it moves along as well. The MOMA, worth visiting Most famous piece Van Gogh: Starry Night Favorite Van Gogh piece The Olive Trees Always a pleaser Anything by Seurat Impressive up close Gustav Klimt: Hope II Revelation Jasper Johns Special exhibition Impressive Friedlander photography (like the letters, the nudes, the American monuments) Not a big hit Architecture and Design floor though the High Line exhibit was tight Personal favorite Rothko Untitled (I have a framed print in my kitchen), couldn't find online but I like how it's huge in size (taller than me) Warrants a return Sculpture Garden was not ready, couple of rooms had "installation in progress" and finally we failed to see 2nd floor which had more paintings and large sculptures Most wanted posters - Pollock: Lucifer - Lichtenstein: Drowning Girl - Gursky: 99 Cent MOMA - Google Maps 11 W 53rd St (53rd St and 5th Ave) New York, NY 10019 (212) 708-9400 Links - pictures - /2005/06 jun 09-19 east coast trippin/1 nyc/moma - blog post 10/10/2004 - San Francisco MOMA - http://www.moma.org/
