Finally bought a new digital camera, I needed one bad since I'm gonna have a trip back home in France in February. Thanks John for ordering it through my Amazon referral link, it saved me a good $14 on $360 something though I've never seen any of that money yet (I chose Amazon over some no name etailer even though it meant losing on ~$20 in savings, you just don't know with these less reliable sources.. especially when there are a lot of negative reviews)

The camera is pretty nice, I've played with it in stores. It's a bit heavy especially compared to the Pentax Optio series and I'm not sure how much I'm gonna use the 3x optical zoom but it's something good to have

It's really nice that I already have a 512MB SD card so I'm saving a bit on that. Some quick features and comparison with my previous cam, the SD10:

It seems picture quality is a bit better, crisp is the word. I can only comment on indoor evening shots with flash though. The on-screen menu is nicer, similar but has bigger icons and nifty animation when switching between modes (flash, picture modes, etc). The battery is a tad smaller and translates to less pictures (140 vs 190), full charge takes 90 vs 95 min. The LCD is a huge improvement in size. I'm really not sure how much I'll use the viewfinder now that I'm used to taking pictures with the LCD. The digital macro mode seems to be improved quite a bit as well. The playback lets you scroll between pictures really fast, using the zoom lets you go from thumbs to actually navigating within a picture. I noticed the camera has a feature where it rotates the pictures automatically, that is quite nifty indeed (but it's only rotating for pic viewing on camera, pictures are left untouched). Finally Canon finally removed the time limit on videos, making it default to as much space as you have (SD10 had 3min previously max record time). To note: no zooming once video has started. Finally a minor gripe: the SD10 shipped with a 32MB card and that was weak but this newer model (Sep 2004) came with a 16MB card! That's 6 pictures at the highest setting, what is Canon thinking?

No complaints really, except for the size but you it's good enough
