best movies of 2004

No 5-star movies but a solid year actually even though there was no LOTR to look forward to, the list is heavily dominated by sequels, a trend I see continuing with an industry devoid of imagination.. pleasant surprises were "Butterfly Effect" (a semi indie hit), "Mindhunters" (the best movie no one saw) and "Eternal Sunshine..." which is the last good movie I watched this year On the catch-up list, I finally watched Cold Mountain (1993) which shoulda gotten an Oscar for costumes alone haha, the Iron Giant (1999) is the best movie I saw on dvd (a cool prelude to Brad Bird's work on Incredibles). Also Laws of Attraction (with P. Brosnan and J. Moore) was surprisingly watchable There was a lot of crappy movies this year, in no particular order and by no means a complete list: Alamo, Jiang Hu, the remake of the Mandchurian Candidate and Saved!
