Ahh these sweet words (you gotta get it where you can), I ordered my Series2 Tivo today. With all the tv I watch, this is probably a good investment. I have been hunting for a deal for awhile, sparked by the techbargains post of the circuitcity.com promo, but that ish was never in stock. Amazon has had the 40-hour DVR (for digital video recorder, duhh) priced at ~ $80 after $100 mail-in rebate for a while now, I decided to jus go for it. No one likes to keep track of those pesky rebate but it should be okay. I can hopefully hack it because 40 hour is a stretch, it's the duration for recording at the lowest quality, and we all know from going to John's house that it looks like shit (as in worst than vhs, cmon mang)

I'm probably gonna spring for the lifetime subscription, Tivo raised the fees a while back, it is now $299 lifetime (or $12.95/month) so it's worth it beyond 2 years. Tivo should be around that long.

The Tivo service of course enables users to time-shift their viewing habits, which is a fancy way of saying they watch their recorded programs later. I'm not sure how useful is pausing live tv (the dvr keeps a small cache of a channel you're watching, enabling you to catch up to live content if you need to go to the bathroom or take a phone call). On recorded shows, you cannot actually skip commercials, something broadcast networks have fought vigurously against and forced ReplayTV to remove, but fast-forwarding through ads works pretty well. You can now on Series2 model schedule recording online and share music and photos from your pc (previously for a fee - update: John says online scheduling has always been available, gratis). Last but not least, Tivo lets you set up a season pass for your favorite shows, recording each episode until you cancel or suspend it

Amazingly, or maybe for retards, Tivo seems to be popular for that little boing/pop sound it makes when you use the remote butons

Update
My Tivo shipped 10/8 via FedEx from MD, almost 3000 miles away, scheduled delivery is 10/14, cannot wait
