There's a cool article on sfgate about how construction is proceeding for the huge commercial and residential space on Market at the site of the old Emporium. The plan is to have a bunch of stores around a Bloomingdales, restaurants and a cineplex. They had to raise a dome structure, a 1920s relic, that will be conserved and ultimated be inserted atop the new $410 million development Quite interesting read. Man nothing ever happens in the South Bay. Well I did read about some squabblings between the SJ downtown association and the county supervisors who approved the bonds to finance a new concert hall in east/south SJ where the fairgrounds are. The plans call for a 7000-seat indoor venue but we are in the very early stages still Links - http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/05/19/MNG066O85V1... - http://sanfrancisco.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/stories/2003/11/17/st... - http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/8701477.htm
