why buying stuff won't make you happy

so in an unprecedent move, i caved into the odd pressure not to have anything in the mail coming (don't worry i'm just extra bored, like the theme of the month.. hey who said april's the cruellest month?.... ts eliot? frost! no eliot haha). i bought some books on amazon (comic books count right?) - bendis/maleev: daredevil underboss maleev art totally suits the gritty storytelling by bendis, this is an earlier storyarc before i jumped on the series (i collect the monthlies = individual comics) - ted naifeh: courtney crumrin and the night things first installment in this harry potter-ish series with a 'tude, it's pretty fun. naifeh stuff reads a lot better in trade (stories are too complex or delays between issues too gay) - jerome: three men in a boat: to say nothing of the dog i forget how i heard about this but i think it's supposed to be hilarious, set in 1800 england.. dunno. hey this one is a novel, gimme some props total $26.04 ca-ching! no shipping or sales tax (tho have u heard of the use tax? basically u have to report out of state tax-free purchases on ur tax returns... there was a question related to that for my online filing.. word! don't worry no one really does that).. the freeship option always intrigues me though.. so if you pay for shipping, it'll ship within 24 hours, otherwise it'll take a week for it to ship. i mean what gives, that's just weak. bleh whatever buy somethin for some quick but short-lived appreciation.. that's like the foundation of our capitalistic society. i read a great article titled "no news, good news" (ah do i miss college). basically it outlined how our society is not one of consumption but one of comparison. it's not so much that you want "stuff", it's just that your stuff is no longer good because someone somewhere has this new stuff that's so much better. ok that's a real basic summary but it's the gist. hey what do u think is the role of a commercial ad? it's that whole the "grass is greener.." idea. it's also an assured way of never being content. in closing, and sadly, it would be easier to move to some remote deserted location than resist the urge to purchase. hey that's just me. (if u wonder why i listen to the same stuff, i dont have that much music at work.. really need to start streamin some ish or somethin) Links - http://amazon.com - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T_S_Eliot
