October 31, 2008 - $25 Kira and I spent Halloween at Mezzanine for a long overdue Yelle show (I missed her twice). We were a bit out of place being outnumbered by costumed folks. In general we showed up too early (and sober) so we had to endure two openers (though Passion Pit sounded ok, that singer was super into it) before Yelle took the stage Popscene DJs Omar and Aaron (great getup kid!) held it down mostly. Everyone converged on the dancefloor when they played some version of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes". Other highlights included Bloc Party, The Killers and Daft Punk The Yelle set itself was pretty great. Kira's favorite song "Tristesse Joie" was the first song of the night, she continued on and played through most of her album Pop-Up (no "Tu Es Beau"). The people with their inconsiderate props kinda bummed me out but you just had to push through. It was interesting how she could turn any of her songs (except "Les Femmes") into a super techno drum beat number. Interesting and quite good. Kira loved her dance moves and her outfit.. she looked a bit different from her pictures, kinda witchy Yelle is super fun live, one of my favorite moments might have been the intro for "Je Veux Te Voir". Yup I'm tellin ya: drums Here are some photos, more ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Links - http://www.xlr8r.com/tv/87
