Kira is the biggest Weezer fan so we went to a pretty packed show last night in San Jose (why this venue?). We got to skip Tokyo Police Club (no hate, but you know..) but we weren't late enough to miss Angels And Airwaves, their set started at 840ish pm



Tom DeLonge is even more emo than I thought possible, and I saw the Adventure video. They managed to play the same two and a half songs three times over (I did like "Everything's Magic", The Gift", "Sirens", "Secret Crowds", well if I could tell em apart). Ish just doesn't translate too well live. Oh and the light guy needs to reign it in, it was an all out assault on my optic nerves. Oh this is fresh

DeLonge is apparently atoning for the juvenile high jinks of his old band by playing in a group that is no fun at all. Overshadowed by a garish light display that often left the musicians themselves virtually invisible, the trio aimed at the profundity and majesty of U2 or Muse and missed badly. Between songs, DeLonge reverted to form and used the F-word a lot.

Weezer came out blasting "My Name Is Jonas" and did not look back. They played for almost two hours starting around 9:30pm. I actually liked the strange costumes / wild team Weezer stuff. Cuomo wore kneepads to slide it out




Rivers actually shared singing duties with the rest of the band, something Kira thought was kinda weak. They were able to sustain a lot of that high energy save for a few dubious set list choices. Also, it was pretty retarded when they played "Heart Songs" on a vynil, for a short intermission.. layme

The crowd was mostly mellow, lots of couples and hugging

Inviting the young musicians to play "Island In The Sun" and "Beverly Hills" as a variant on audience participation was cool but didn't sound that great


My first Weezer show was pretty sweet overall, go \/\/
