10/6/08 We went to see this show with Kira's friend last night (thx Marni for the hookup). They had a pretty strange setup at Cafe Du Nord with tiny (less than comfortable) chairs lined up in front of the stage. It felt very Swedish American. We got to sit up close without ordering the awesome food so I ain't complaining I may or may not have seen the opener Kevin Devine before, he's also on guitars for Rachael. I liked his stuff well enough though I kept getting distracted by the noise of people eating and talking. There was an angst aura around him (that completely left when he was on stage later) and that made me feel strange though it was intensely pleasing at the same time. Listen to "Another Bag Of Bones" (more Kevin Devine) I never really listened to Rachael Yamagata before, it was solid stuff, perfect for Cafe Du Nord or the crowd in attendance (lotta chicks). She alternated from the piano to the guitar, poor girl was sick (San Francisco has that affect on people) but soldiered on, maybe it added to her sultry vocals.
