One of my favorite artists Shepard Fairey (better known for Obey Giant) came through town last week, peep game

Fairey spent a few good productive nights in SF "bombing" (I saw stuff around the TL, Mission, Potrero)

He left more conventional stuff around the gallery

Kira thought it looked very familiar. It turns out her friend Tricia worked with Shepard on a room for Hotel Des Arts (my favorite room there was done by Apex)

I actually stopped by with Jason and his girl on Saturday for the opening but it was the most packed I've seen White Walls (actually the kid is so large that his show is spanning White Walls and Shooting Gallery). You had to wait for people to leave to get in, it was super lame (they were filming a documentary also). Anyways, I went back yesterday with Kira and we checked the art just before closing

The stuff is very cool though very expensive (he had some high quality prints, signed mind you, going for $200, wuaaaat? I mean it's just a fancy poster..). I like the textures, the stencil work over older prints or what not, his process looks very cool. The war imagery is very nice though my favorites are his designs around lettering (the fly Obey banknotes). A couple of pieces are really big, like go large or go home

As you can see, fame attracts some hate (or it's that whole street art vs graf thing, wutev it's all good)
