11/23/07 Rarely have I gone to a show where all the acts (and I mean the openers) killed it, this was one of em. I thought it'd be lazy quiet for a post Thanksgiving show but this sold out nice I arrived in time to catch Tyler Ramsey who played a short but spirited set. It was a very soulful country type solo act with a sometime drum machine ![]() He was fully embracing guitar doodling, it was very lovely. Ramsey later joined BOH for their whole performance myspace.com/tylerramseymusic The Drones delivered a big kick of energy to the face, it was hard not to be drawn in. I really liked the songs that had those long bass lines ![]() Granted it was probably not everyone's cup of tea but I was rooting for the four from Melbourne (Australia). Bonus: the other guitarist reminded me of a mix of Michael Madsen and Johnny Cash, the full on suit was nice.. he woulda had the full 100 cool points if he was smoking on stage; the bassist is a chick myspace.com/thedronesthedrones Band Of Horses was in top form, Ben looked more frail than I had remembered. My memory is not so good. It's that beard, it makes him look haggard but also more massive. I hope it acts as a bit of a natural shield cuz the kid is still a bit reeling from all the negative internets on his case. He should let it go cuz Band Of Horses is bigger than all of that ![]() ![]() Twice, when Ben wasn't manning his "pluck board" or guitar, he traded the axe for.. an axe (toy) and a tambourine, that was a funny sight ![]() The set list (my faves in black, credits) Monsters The First Song Is There A Ghost The Great Salt Lake Islands On The Coast Weed Party No One's Gonna Love You Marry Song The General Specific Wicked Gil Ode To LRC The Funeral Am I A Good Man (Them Two cover) - see Seattle live video - Our Swords Part One Cigarettes, Wedding Bands [Unknown Cover] - Detlef Schrempf The two covers both went over well. The bassist and Ben had pretty good chemistry, I also liked his shufflesque moves hah. I thought the other guitarist really shone on "No One's Gonna Love You". How do guitars sound so good on that song They've been stingy on posters for the last few shows, wonder what's up. Still, one of the best shows of the year (thx Marni for the guestlist spot). Rest of my photos myspace.com/bandofhorses Check out an entire recording of one of their shows in Seattle from October at Captains Dead BOH Discog Links - blog post 7/6/2006 - Band of Horses @ Independent
