11/14/2007 First up, Marni hooked up the guestlist, thanks It was to go downhill from there. Kevin Devine was inoffensive enough, almost. The New Frontiers (Texas) was entirely listenable. So much that I actually bought my friend the album due out in February which included a tour ep. We bumped it in the car going home and it was solid. Manchester Orchestra was only memorable for being so horrible and yet having so many fans. Indie music fuhreal. Patience had run real low for Annuals (North Carolina) and even if the band impressed by having a ton of peeps on stage (six deep, though it looked like more, plus a girl on keyboards gets automatic points), I made up my mind to leave by the third song. To be fair the 2nd song they played had a spark towards the end with some Metallica aggression. No joke, it was cool. MO and Annuals were more on an experimental tip, as in not very accessible I thought I'd get a kick out of Annuals after reading the long article from Oxford American, despite not particularly enjoying their album Be He Me. Win some, lose some The best part of the evening was playing a stupid Asian drinking game (odds and evens in denominations of five) and finding some graffiti tags in the men's room ![]() Bottom Of The Hill remains a pretty cool venue, one of our city's smallest. They serve food, pizza (when?) and have a patio for smokers out back. If only they could book some better bands. Matter of taste I suppose Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St San Francisco, CA 94107 Google Maps (17th at Texas) bottomofthehill.com Some photos ![]() The New Frontiers ![]() Annuals Links - blog post 2/13/2007 - Young Love @ Bottom Of The Hill
