Lil Gee is on the official get-thee-a-dslr-already campaign, he has paved the way for Cary, James and the Ganner. Over the week-end, I had a chance for this simple side by side

James' 40D

My SD630

Maybe this ain't the best example, however while his picture has better color (and it has no been enhanced with post processing, yet), the difference is negligible to me.

Rather, the following illustrates the bigger problem

DSLRs are just damn hugeness. Again, the graf shots probably aren't a very good showcase for quality. I do know that about the DSLR quality, it's more about how each of us use our cameras

Don't get me wrong, I'd love taking better pictures, but in a small form factor. It is at this point more about being ok with good enough pics (I do almost puke at the the recent Jimmy Eat World pics)

More to keep in mind
- Canon EOS 40D $1,300
- Canon PowerShot SD750 $222 (a presumably better update to my camera)
- gory comps from dpreview

If anything, something with Image Stabilization is a more sensible upgrade, the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS ($321) is looking hot with the 3in LCD. Also: SD950 IS ($399) and the older SD850 IS (only $275); more comps

The current status is to keep the ol trusty SD630 until it completely dies (not soon enough).. it woulda been cool if Nikon picked SF for Picturetown (and to be chosen out of 200)

Actually last year's Taiwan trip has some good pix to compare

mine

Lil Gee's Digital Rebel XT

Cary's Nikon D50

Nevermind, that was retarded
