Dr Mehmet Oz was on Charlie Rose to promote a new book he co-wrote, "You On A Diet". "Waist management", how cute. He's the vice chairman of surgery for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (wikped, offical)

I wouldn't necessarily buy a book on eating but he had some cool info. Lots of normal stuff most people know but also some new things
- crash diets mos def do NOT work, which bodes well for Hawaii
- avg. person should eat 1800 to 2000 calories of food (per day)
- working out is not about sweating, you need muscles
- if you don't work out, easiest way to start is to walk 30min a day, lift weights for 30-40min a day (build that core)
- beer bellies are hard because the fat is not on the surface, it surrounds the organs (mine is flabbies tho)
- formula for the ideal body (forget weight and bmi, I suppose): waist should not be bigger than height (in inches) / 2, for me 74 / 2 = 37 inches (uhh easy)
- have a little something to eat (nuts are good) 1/2 hour before a sit down meal, mostly dinner, so not to be famished (and splurgeroos)
- tree nuts are great (right kind of fats): walnut, hazelnut, almond; peanut is not so hot, I think pistachio is ok
- breakfast is good but you need fiber and protein (sugar high won't last)
- Mehmet's diet is Mediterranean
- white bread = candy bar?! Wut?! (chemically the same)
- say no to desserts :-( no ice cream
- get the alcohol in the middle of the meal (you will not eat more than you should, and wine doesn't go with desserts, yes again: skip dessert)
- snoring is related to obesity (if your collar size is greater than 17in, you have a good chance of having sleep apnea)
The show aired this past Wednesday, actually July 26, 2007 at midnight. It was the same episode where Rose interviewed Milos Forman (his new movie looks the suck).
