embed crazy (widgets)

I was discussing the virtues of embedding and outside hosting with Gee, you don't really have to do it yourself anymore (this echoes sentiments I've read here last year) - photo (the ones you took with your camera), use Flickr - image, use ImageShack - video, use YouTube (I prefer Vimeo), I use Google Video for really big files (no limit) - mp3, use DivShare (zShare is popular, not embeddable though) - files, use Box.net, in fact Box.net got a pretty new sharing widget that allows you to share all your files - podcast, use Odeo - text document, use Scribd (pretty new, it's got a pdf widget) - slideshows, which I recently also posted about with Scrapblog (pics, text, videos), this is a pretty niche program I feel like all these services let a site owner concentrate on content, hopefully something original. The drawback of course is that you are now dependent on these services and hey will go down every now and then Along those lines, "badges" let you bring the content you create elsewhere to your site, like your Yelp reviews, del.icio.us links or upcoming.org events (even Amazon wishlists). Last but not least, people can use Blogger or Wordpress to host their blogs, so what you gonna write about? getting the link to embed a Flickr photo ![]() getting the link to embed a Scrapblog slideshow ![]()
