Unsubscribing from both Gizmodo and Engadget means I've been out of touch with the digicam world, and for me it's mostly Canon (foe life yo). In late February, Canon announced some new Powershots, of interest the SD line: SD750 and SD1000 (oh that sounds so baller)

Features include 7mp, face detection focus (is this jus bs?), 3x optical zoom. I noticed the macro min. distance increased from 5cm from 3cm, that blows. Engadget is upset over the lack of SDHC.. I suppose 2GB is starting to get obsolete

Canon focused more on form factor, the SD1000 is Canon's "slimmest optical zoom camera yet", I kinda dig it

I am using dpreview's cool comparison tool although that is only cool if the data is accurate (they messed up on the new camera lcd size.. who knows what else)

With some recent publicity over the uselessness of megapixels and recent talks with friends, I'd be a lot more excited about the company's next IS camera which I would say should see an update this year (the SD700 IS was released in Feb 06, then came the SD800 IS in Sep 06). So yeah mp aside, I'd want a larger lcd (3.0!!) and a slimmer form factor

My trusty SD630 is getting pretty beat up, it looks a lot worse than this
