I bought my ticket way in advance on Virtuous, I shoulda known it wasn't the type of show to be sold out. Doesn't matter too much, it was one of the cheapest shows I've gone to all year at $12. Slim's is a little bit on the whack side, they have a screen in front of the stage with projection of 80s work out tapes, chicks in leotards.. anyway, I went there pretty late and still the opener didn't go on

And what an opener. I had no idea The Submarines were the first act. In fact I recognized about four songs but had no clue who these people were. The Submarines duo play guitars and sing together, over beats and music from a Macbook. They're from LA. They were really good actually, especially the girl had an amazing voice. It was weird how some of their songs veered into country but it's mostly solid "hold your hands" Mazzy Star type stuff. I picked up the album for $10 and it's quite excellent

Youth Group came all the way from Australia (youthgroup.com.au ya heard?), got popular in the the US covering Alphaville's "Forever Young" on The OC. Sadly they didn't play that song, rather mostly songs from "Skeleton Jar" and the new album "Casino Twilight Dogs". The good songs are really good, but there are some I don't care for. The singer is quite the crooner. I mean how he opened with "On A String", very impressive vocals there. Other cool cats on the band were the bassist and the drummer

Cool show in general, crowd a bit too coupley for me. I snagged a pic of the set list so I have this ish for once
