Badd. Ass.

300 is one flick you want to experience in the theaters. I could post a ton more pics from Y! Movies

300 (2007) - 5/5
IMDB (8.4/10): Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.

Casting Gerard Butler (Dear Frankie, Phantom of the Opera) was a tour de force rivalling Tobey Maguire (or they went on 8-packs alone). He owns "Leonidas" on screen, the physique, the way he talks, monster character

I liked that the other characters shone on their own, those breathtaking battle scenes help. The other familiar face was Dominic West (The Wire) as a conniving politician, he may have been ideally cast as well though it's a minor role and plot

And to think I was worried from the NYT review (I only read that first sentence) and Metacritic. Critics can suck it, I've actually done a pretty good media blackout on this one

Director Zach Snyder freakin blew my mind. The action scenes were so bad ass I'm gonna be reeling from them for weeks. It was stylized just right, just enough that it had a surreal quality (slowing down mid-scenes did it). Awesome (cuz you can do battle movies wrong, the dull King Arthur comes to mind). Snyder may be be the next great director to come from horror

300 is based on the Greek battle of Thermopylae that Frank Miller (Sin City) immortalized in the Dark Horse comic. He approved of this movie like he did Sin City which is important, for example Alan Moore totally distanced himself from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Something has to be said about the movie mimicking the comic's color palette (credits Lynn Varley). Snyder working on the comics classic Watchmen is probably a good thing. He hid a test frame during the 300 trailer

Award from IWS!
It also gained the honor, bestowed by the man behind me at the theater, of being "the most fucked up crazy ass shit" he'd ever seen. This award was given about fifteen times during the course of the movie.
