blackberry pearl, a week later

This is really like they say: "crackberry". At least that first week, I was losing sleep over it. It's funny that some people don't know how to operate the Pearl, haven't you seen a trackball? (jbc and j7own, I'm looking at you nerdy poseurs)

Overall I love the size (iPhone can suck it) and being connected (chained) to the internet at all times. For example, I've looked up movie times, directions, business lookup, the year Love & Basketball came out (2000) and if Spike Lee was a producer (yes), what the heck does really mesquite mean (type of wood used for grill). It could use some enhancements for sure but I think it might be the best smartphone out right now

Hot
- Phone is small
- Pair the Pearl with OS X via Bluetooth, you're online! See fibble.org.. okay sorta uselessness
- Gmail app (and Gmaps, cool points: Google live traffic, useful: not that much)
- Pretty good coverage (this ain't the ish I tried when I had the Sidekick for a week, sure it was T-Mobile): always have access to Flickr + Bloglines, no longer ever bored waiting (and I wait for shit a lot)
- Can actually type with gloves (sorta)
- Input system (20 key SureType) ain't bad

Lame
- Edge (Cingular) service kinda blows (no 3G in USA anyway)
- Internet kinda lames, still stuck in the mobile web thing with no screen real estate = scrolleria (coupled with item above and you get quite horrendous experience), do get Opera Mini, it helps
- Menu interface is damn slow (navigation is kinda clunky)
- Boot up slow, real slow
- No charging via USB
- Occasional crash (hard reboot by removing battery..)
- MicroSD placement retarded (under battery)
- Picture ID and cameraphone quality in general the suxor, see sample
- Browser(s) won't support mp3, stream or download
- No cut and paste (or text selection for that matter) Actually you can select and cut/paste with the shift button, doesn't work in Opera though (and Gmail)
- No Google Talk for the Pearl, what happened (Ramble IM for now is ok, it supports AIM)
- No vibe then ring setting
- $30 data plan is very much wtf

It ain't perfect, I do quite like it
