I went home early Friday and after suffering an hour's worth of Fall Out Boy (I regret getting Rene the cd), I heard this special announcement on the radio. It turns out Live 105 have been promoting a private Incubus show for the past two weeks, I never listen to the radio anymore so this was the first I heard. No tickets available to the public but the first 100 idiots who line up can get in for free. That was 5pm. I was gonna go run, the weather had been so gorgeous all week but I hopped on a couple of buses and got there at 6p. There was no one there which was so weird. I thought I'd come and see how it was packed and go home and chill. I ended up being person #15

This show was sponsored by Live 105 and Verizon Wireless, apparently a bunch of people came from LA (KROQ) and others flew in from other parts of the country. It seemed like it was one of those events where people attended after winning some contest. There was actually a VIP thing with meet and greet (lucky fans had pictures with the band and autographs). Anyway even if I waited outside forever, it was random enough that it was cool. Free baby, beat that

The show was a real treat for the fans, Incubus has a new album "Light Grenades" coming out in Nov 28, they only played one new song as far as I could tell. I'm a bit ambivalent about their stuff, didn't like their latest that much, they do put on a hell of a live show. The sound is so fresh. The focus was on Brandon (singer) who peeled layer after layer of what he was wearing. Ok I don't know why I wrote that. There was some joke about him wearing a red dress, I didn't really get it. That was the gay in retrospect. Otherwise he's pretty awesome, you can feel the energy flowing from him. Mike on guitars is impressive too, he's basically Incubus musically. The bassist Ben was pretty groovy, like the epitomy of cool, kind of like ?uestlove in the Roots, I'm not trying to say it's a black thing but them cats know how to roll. Incidently I just read Ben Kenney used to be in The Roots. Cool. The drummer was on point. I kept thinking man they got a band for real. Exception for the dj dude who kinda blows, it's like what does he really do in this ish? He got some cool parts on a couple of songs but that's it

The set included "Nice To Know You", "Wish You Were Here", "Drive", "Make Yourself", "Warning", "Out From Under", maybe "Nowhere Fast" and "Consequence". The new song was 'Anna Molly", which was the password to get in the show (they didn't ask for it), listen to it on MySpace

"Pardon Me" closed the show, a pretty sweet affair, including "I Miss You" woulda made it perfect. Quite the awesomeness for real though. I'm looking forward to revisiting their catalog, in particular Morning View and Make Yourself

Video of "Pardon Me", over 300 megs so again, Google Video

Had pizza at Golden Boy and some gelato at Naia, North Beach can be kinda cool

Some pictures, whole set
