Caught a late show at the Westfield SFC (10:30p will have you out after 1am), the 9:10p show was sold out, this is a week after the release. The Departed is worth its many many praises

PS: why are all these trailers clones of each other?

Departed (2006) - 5/5
IMDB (8.6/10): Two men from opposite sides of the law are undercover within the Boston State Police department and the Irish mafia, but violence and bloodshed boil when discoveries are made, and the moles are dispatched to find out their enemy's identities.

Movie was pretty bloody and damn good. Scorcese forgoes the theatricals for something closer to his heart (gritty street), he is quite the master at the genre (it's Casino good)

He has a lot to thank for the original Internal Affairs and gets to polish the original (it bugs me that its English title is in fact "Infernal Affairs", can't let that go), many and I would agree would say he had to live up to it. He did. They of course changed some stuff, you have to adapt a movie for its audience, it's probably true some things don't translate, thankfully America is quite ready for organized crime and deception. I couldn't actually recall what changed except knowing something did. My friend reminded me about the shrink character, quite a gem here though having her also involved with Damon's character was a stretch

The dialogue was snappy and at times funny, reaching heights in vulgarity. William Monahan works his Bostonian background in the screenplay, the original HK guys are of course given dues

Everyone's acting is top notch, Nicholson a tad overdoing it though he commands so much attention. Boston accents were very on point: Damon can do Boston Irish, Sheen *is* part Irish.. Wahlberg is so outstanding, wtf with the hair though, the movie did lose some cred with me on that arms deal scene with the Chinese, some of the Cantonese uttered is ridiculously Americanized. Special note to Ray Winstone which has the presence of a monster and Vera Farmiga (the shrink), she's obviously hot but her face has a subdued beauty, it was cool I just saw her in a retarded b-movie. A striking scene that shows how good DiCaprio is for me was the one where he's seen first talking in the shrink's office, golden

Minor peeves, I thought Costello coulda used more class, I mean he was very bum-like, where's mafia boss allure. Some of his clothes and hair just distracted from the movie a bit. Is that supposed to be in character? Also the music totally threw me off though I guess the Celts are associated with Boston

The gore of the violence (and the blood) is frighteningly realistic. So is the angst around cellphones and the interplay with text messages. Making old tech hot. One of the best movies of the year, could be the best drama/thriller

I'm a bit ambivalent one sheet treatment, not sure I like it. Lulu mentioned she saw Brad Pitt credited as producer, that's kind of random, great pick

I still have to see this, really like Internal Affairs so I'm really hoping that I won't be disappointed!
