Got kinda bored and went to get a new iPhone 3G yesterday with James and Gee after work. The line was 3 hours (they told us 1-2), even after 10 days. It was definitely a huge step back in terms of customer experience compared to last year's launch (walk in and buy, activate at home, yay)
Gee and I had a mini scare cuz there was a red flag on our accounts because of a corporate discount. We called custo service (611) and removed it while we waited in line (I re-added it this morning).. sheesh, that was close. The lame Apple store clerks were telling people to go to an AT&T store. Fantasbulous
Valley Fair had been out of stock since Wednesday and 16GB black was sold out. I settled for the white one, not my first choice but it's not bad. I do have to say that the whole activation took like 5 minutes, maybe because I was upgrading from the first iPhone. Your mileage may vary (brand new account, transfer number). ~ $340 (no text package, $18 upgrade fee)
The 3G feels nicer than the other one thanks to the new plastic casing and the sharp edges (it's kinda sad that it cannot
lay flat anymore though). 3G is definitely an improvement over Edge, then again you need to get 3G reception which is not a given even if the bay area is
covered pretty well

AT&T 3G coverage
Not feeling the new top button, it's really hard to press. Also the change to make the iPhone accept any headphones means your headphone plug sticks out more.. you can't have everything. Other than that, I'm looking forward to filling this baby up and add more movies, goodbye first generation iPhone with crappy battery life (though the 3g battery supposedly sux too, ha)
Here are some fun pics, the iPhone 3G shinto shrine (more
